The Saimaa region is the most well-known area of beach saunas in Finland. There are approximately 30,000 beach saunas in the Mikkeli region alone. At the Saimaa Saunaday event organised for the first time between 25 and 27 February 2021, you will have an opportunity to enjoy the pleasant heat of a sauna followed by some delicious sauna snacks.
For us, Saunaday is the best day of the week – and it could be Saunaday every day!
Have a taste of the juicy D.O. Saimaa Sauna sausage
“The D.O. Saimaa Sauna sausage was developed to emphasise the wonderful flavours of the pure raw materials. In terms of spices, we wanted to highlight the slightly woody notes, using local juniper berry, fresh rosemary and the Finnish Kyrö Napue Gin. The D.O. Saimaa Sauna sausage is a token of respect for local raw materials and handicrafts! The sausage mixture includes ingredients such as beef mince from Hyvätuuli Highland, minced meat from Kaartilan Mallaspossu and barley and oat grains from Rapion Mylly. The juicy D.O. Saimaa Sauna sausage tastes great in the heat of the sauna or perhaps after a dip in the icy water, served with a chilled tar cider from Ollinmäki.”
