Saimaa Central Park is a gateway to the nature of Lake Saimaa conveniently close to the centre of Mikkeli. The stunning park area is full of life: we recommend to enjoy idyllic Kenkävero with its restaurants and shops, the beautiful flowerbeds and model gardens in the Mikkelipuisto park, Urpola Nature Centre and nature trail, Kaihu nature trail and frisbee golf course, the outdoor play and picnic areas, campfire sites, and the Kaihu beach and diving tower.
In Mikkelipuisto visitors can have lunch or dinner in restaurant Greeneri or Sauna Restaurant Kaihu, or go for a picnic and even enjoy a barbecue at the designated spots in the park. Afterwards it is nice to relax and take a stroll in the beautiful gardens of the Mikkelipuisto park.
From Mikkelipuisto, head to the Kaihu nature trail, which runs along a narrow ridge in the middle of the lake. The route continues to the Urpola Nature Centre, which is open in summer. The Urpola Nature Trail is a scenic trail along the Urpola River. Along the trail, there is an old mill building and a campfire site where you can have a picnic. You can take firewood for the campfire from the Urpola Nature Centre.
