Make sure to visit the nearby marketplace, where you can experience the local atmosphere while shopping for fresh ingredients, enjoying ice cream, or taking a coffee break. The marketplace offers a variety of options, including fresh fruits and berries, same day harvested vegetables, handmade artisan products, and numerous cafes. If you're looking for more shopping options, the Stella or Akseli Shopping Centre is a great choice. While you are there, don't miss the Mikkeli market hall, which is filled with local vendors selling a variety of goods. If you're interested in art, make sure to check out the Mikkeli Art Museum, which is in the Akseli Shopping Centre and features exhibitions of the art of South Savo.

For a unique historical experience, visit the Centre of War and Peace Muisti and Headquarters Museum, where you can learn about the effects of war on people and society. This science center offers interactive exhibitions where you can participate in wartime decision-making and consider the choices that were made. Across the street, Bistro Holvi offers a delicious buffet lunch featuring local ingredients and a relaxed ambiance.

If you want a little exercise, Saimaa Central Park is the perfect place to explore the city surrounded by nature. This magnificent park area is buzzing with life and offers a variety of services, including Kenkävero and Mikkeli Puisto Park. Be sure to visit Kenkävero, an old vicarage that exudes history mixed with present-day charm. Don't miss D.O. Saimaa shop, which is located inside Kenkävero and offers unique local products. If you're a garden enthusiast, make sure to visit Mikkelipuisto Park, which contains numerous model gardens full of inspiring ideas. This park also features a play area for children, activities, restaurant Greeneri, and a garden shop.

For a memorable evening, head to Bar DOM for an aperitif before taking a taxi to Tertti Manor for a Saimaa Gastronomy dinner. This unique restaurant offers authentic and innovative culinary experiences using locally sourced food from the Lake Saimaa region. You can also bike to Tertti Manor, which is just 7 km from the city center. For a good night's sleep, check in to Sokos Hotel Vaakuna or Scandic Mikkeli.
